What Can I Do to Manage My Own Anxiety?

Lifestyle changes such as exercise and mindfulness can be helpful in managing anxiety.

Many people find various lifestyle changes to be helpful in managing their anxiety. These include:

  • Exercising regularly, such as running or yoga

  • Practising meditation or mindfulness training

  • Maintaining a healthy diet and getting adequate sleep

  • Avoiding stimulants, such as coffee and other recreational drugs

  • Refraining from alcohol use. Whilst drinking alcohol may temporarily ease off levels of anxiety, long term consumption of alcohol might conversely lead to worsened anxiety and depressive symptoms

  • Learning about the illness and the symptoms of anxiety

  • Seeking support from friends and family
