Pharmacist Tips

  • Starting the Medication: When beginning treatment with Lyrica, it's important to start with the lowest possible dose and gradually increase it as advised by your healthcare provider. This helps minimize side effects.
  • Consistent Schedule: Try to take your doses at the same times each day to maintain an even level of medication in your body. Consistent dosing can also help avoid missed doses.
  • Managing Side Effects: If you experience dizziness or sleepiness, avoid activities that require mental alertness until these side effects subside. If these effects are severe or persistent, consult your healthcare provider.
  • Withdrawal Symptoms: Do not stop taking Lyrica abruptly without consulting your doctor, as this may cause withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, nausea, headache, and diarrhea. Your healthcare provider will guide you on how to taper off the medicine safely.
  • Overdose Awareness: Be aware of the symptoms of an overdose, which can include blurred vision, difficulty breathing, and extreme sleepiness. Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect an overdose.
  • Pregnancy and Nursing: There are as yet no current studies establishing safety in pregnancy. The drug can be excreted in milk, hence is not recommended for use by nursing mothers.
  • Storage Information: Keep Lyrica in a secure place out of reach of children and pets and store it at room temperature away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).
  • Handling Instructions: If you are using the oral solution, ensure that it is measured with an accurate dosing syringe or cup. Do not use household utensils to measure the liquid form.
  • Disposal of Unused Medication: If you have leftover or expired Lyrica, do not dispose of it in household trash or wastewater. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company for proper disposal instructions to help protect the environment and others from potential harm.
  • Traveling with Medication: When traveling, keep Lyrica in its original labeled container and bring a copy of your prescription. Be aware of regulations if you are traveling internationally, as some countries have specific rules regarding controlled substances.
