What is Clarinase? 

Clarinase is a combination medication used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis and the common cold. It contains two active ingredients: loratadine, which is an antihistamine, and pseudoephedrine, which is a decongestant. 

The antihistamine component, loratadine, works by blocking histamine, a substance that the body produces during an allergic reaction. Pseudoephedrine works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages, leading to decreased swelling and congestion.

Usage

What is Clarinase used for? 

Clarinase is used to treat symptoms of seasonal allergies, also known as hay fever, including: 

• Nasal congestion 
• Runny nose 
• Sneezing 
• Itchy or watery eyes 
• Sinus pressure 

It may also be used for the relief of congestion or pressure associated with the common cold. 

How do you use Clarinase? 

Availability:

Clarinase is available in tablet form, often as an extended-release tablet that provides 12-hour or 24-hour relief.

Dosage information:

• Adults and children 12 years and older: Typically, one tablet every 12 or 24 hours, depending on the product formulation. 
• Children under 12 years: Not recommended. 

Suitability: 

• Children: Not recommended for children under 12 years old. 
• Adults: Suitable for adults and children 12 years and older, individuals with glaucoma and hyperthyroidism. 

• Elderlies: Use with caution, as older adults may be more sensitive to the effects of pseudoephedrine. 
• Pregnancy: Consult with a healthcare provider before use. 
• Lactation: Not recommended as the drug can pass into breast milk. 

Is there anyone who can’t take Clarinase? 

• Children under 12 years old 
• Individuals with severe high blood pressure or coronary artery & cerebrovascular disease 
• Patients who are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or have taken them within the last 14 days 
• Allergies: Do not use if you have an allergy to loratadine, pseudoephedrine, or any other part of this drug.

• Take with food or milk if it causes stomach upset. 
• Do not take more than directed. 

Drug Interactions: 

• Avoid taking with MAOIs. 
• May interact with other blood pressure medications or stimulants. 
• Caution is advised when used with other central nervous system depressants.
